Intro
I went to go see “Tango Abrazos” at the Cinequest 2013. Based on the name, I assumed that it was a foreign movie. Prior to the film, I had no knowledge on what the film was about because I never read the synopsis to any movie during the film festival.
Plot
Two different couples in Ljubljana, Slovenia decide to take dance lessons in order to get closer to their significant other. Both couples end up taking tango, and that’s where they meet each other.
Both couples become friends and get acquainted with each other. Love, friendship, and affection between all four of them become blurred as they realize what’s really important in their lives.
Good
It was an interesting experience because I was unfamiliar with a lot of things and was able to learn a few things courtesy of this movie. I don’t know too much about the tango nor am I familiar with Slovenia besides the Winter Olympics and World War II. It was refreshing to see a world outside the one I’ve been accustomed to.
Bad
I feel like I’ve seen this movie before. That’s right! It’s almost the same storyline as “Shall We Dance”.
Overview:
It was enjoyable despite it being towards the lower tier of all the movies I saw at Cinequest. Nothing about it really wowed me but solid nonetheless.
Overall rating: 2.5/5
