On Saturday, August 3rd, 2013, the staff at Sturdy Pine helped run an FGC (fighting game community) event at the Breezy Excursion headquarters in San Jose, CA. Games that had tournaments included Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Dead or Alive 5, Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Soul Calibur V, and Super Street Fighter II: HD Remix. We also were able to conduct many interviews with important figures with the local FGC.

First up, we have an interview with coL. Filipino Champ. We talked about his performance in top 8 in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 at EVO 2013, why he played differently against two different “Zero May Cry” teams, Ultra Street Fighter IV, VxG, his status with Complexity Gaming, and what it means to have Shady K as a member of the team.

Next, we have an interview with EG PR Balrog. We discuss his top 8 play in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012. We discussed why he didn’t stick with Fei Long, what happened against Infiltration, the differences in Akuma play between Infiltration and MCZ Tokido, and how he stacks up against international competition. We also discuss Ultra Street Fighter IV and his lack of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 practice.

This interview is with MC X-Ray. We discuss his EVO run, his team he’s working on, playing against Nor Cal’s best, the thought of dropping Ammy and the thought of “collusion”.

The next interview is with CJ Showstopper. We talk about his training regimen against fellow Nor Cal players, his thoughts on Nor Cal being the best region in the world for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, calling out other Marvel players in exhibitions, his EVO run, and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Finally, we have an interview with Chemie and Big Bunny of the Nor Cal Soul Calibur V community. We discuss what it felt like to not have SCV as a main EVO title, what it meant to have Mad Catz have top 8 of SCV on their stage even as a side tournament, what other Soul Calibur communities can learn from the Nor Cal community, and Soul Calibur II: HD.
