Intro
The good thing about streaming or listening to music on YouTube is that you can eventually come across music that catches your ear. I was looking up some J-Urban and came across this one song called “Garden”, and I became hooked on the music of May J. I listened to more and more of her music and started to enjoy her ballads due to her voice. I totally became a fan and listened to some of her other albums, and in this case, this one called “Family”.
Good
This album really is diverse with different kinds of sounds. There’s “Garden” if you’re looking for J-Urban with hip-hop flare. “Sayonara No Hokani” has a ballad feel and there are a few more if that’s your taste. “Give My Heart” has symptoms of electro with usage of auto-tune even though she has one of the best voices in music. “Crescent Moon (Daishi Dance Remix)” is one of the better remixed songs. Just a few genres are missing to truly have something for everyone.
Bad
There’s something about this album that’s missing for it to earn a higher score. It’s probably more for what she recorded. She is just a few solid b sides, classic hit or two, or something special to put it over the top. It’s consistent all the way through.
Overview
May J. seems to usually drop really good albums. This is definitely one of those albums where you could listen to the album all the way through. It’s a very good album, but not a classic. I really did enjoy this album a lot though.
