Intro
This 2018 release from E-Girls is the first full-length release under the restructured lineup with 11 members hence the album being called “E.G. 11”. I’m curious about how this new version of the group would do with the main vocalists getting more singing responsibilities and various members having to step up. The loss of various members would mean more leadership amongst the current members.
Good
Because they had released several singles prior to this album dropping, there are a lot of familiar songs and singles. All songs released as an 11 member lineup made it into this album which means this album is packed. They also re-recorded many of their prior hits to match the current lineup which means all the singing falls to Reina, Karen, and Yuzuna. They all inherit lines from Ami, Shizuka, Aya, and more.
This album is loaded with singles like “Love Queen”, “Pain, Pain”, and “Smile for Me”. There are some hidden gems in the form of b-sides like “Run With You”, “Just a Little”, and “Tomorrow Will Be a Good Day”.
Bad
By having this be a new album and a re-recording of previous hits, it meant that it became a double album with new and old songs. I don’t know if the consumer especially longtime fans would buy the double album with songs they already had.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the re-recording of “Y.M.C.A.” only because they’ve had a habit of remaking classic Western songs.
Overview
I do love the album. It took some time to get used to it since some of my favorite members left, but many of my favorite members also stayed. It’s not what I’m accustomed to, but it’s different. They still have a lot in the tank plus more. There are a lot of memorable hits and some underrated songs.
