f(x)’s “Electric Shock” EP review

Artist: f(x)

Album: Electric Shock

Label: SM Entertainment

Year: 2012

Intro

Victoria, Sulli, Amber, Krystal, and Luna aka f(x) are back once again as a collective unit for their latest anticipated release in the summer of 2012 with the EP for “Electric Shock”.  This EP was like their previous efforts which combined that hip-hop, pop, experimental, and electronic sound except this time on steroids.

Good

I liked that they took the next step in their progression in music.  Their experimental sound along with their unique look is what helps them stand out in the deep talent pool of all these K-Pop girl groups.  Each of these songs helps complement each other as it was the theme.  It was also great to have the members more involved in the composition of the songs as well. Amber actually got a bigger role in the group besides the rap parts.

Bad

It is a double edged sword as the songs work well together, but there are no stand out songs besides the titled track.  Listening to it on the first run through did nothing for me as there were no songs that made me really want to listen to again.  It took a few listens for me to actually get into the EP.  If I listen to one song, I’d have to listen to the rest.

Overview

I bought the album because it was cheap and because I had already owned the other previous efforts by f(x). I might as well own this effort. I can’t lie though. “Electric Shock” was pretty hype.

Overall rating: 3/5
