2NE1’s mini album review

Artist: 2NE1

Album: self titled

Label: YG Entertainment

Year: 2009

I decided to get this mini album to complete the available Korean discography from 2NE1 plus there were a few songs I wanted to listen to since I happened to like a few of them.

Out of the seven available tracks, three of them were singles while the other four had the potential chance at becoming hits. I think this album was the start of their rise to fame with just good songs. What better way to debut than with Big Bang helping the transition with “Lollipop”, right?

Some of their middle songs took some time to get used to and like because most of the new fans or non fans would be unfamiliar with them. I needed time since they didn’t perform some of these songs at their concert. Once I got into it, I was totally digging the songs.

“Lollipop” was their unofficial debut single as it wasn’t promoted to be a hit. It was used for an advertisement for the LG Cyon phone. It did do pretty well on the charts though. Their official first single was “Fire”.

Although this was just their debut album, I think their later releases for subsequent albums were better which is how it should be. This mini album did launch them into super stardom with that “Fire”.

Overall rating: 3.5/5
