Big Bang’s “First Single” review

Artist: Big Bang

Album: “First Single”

Label: YG Entertainment

Year: 2006

I pretty much bought this EP so that I never have to go onto YouTube to listen to “We Belong Together” ever again. I also bought it because it was $3.99 on iTunes which was literally a steal in my opinion.

I do love the song “We Belong Together”. I think G-Dragon and T.O.P. work well together with contrasting voices. Both were very chill, but I did think that Park Bom literally killed the hook.

It was great to see the rise of G-Dragon putting songs together as a writer and composer. “A Fool of Tears” is also a song that has been growing on me a lot with that hip-hop and R&B vibe.

Besides the fact that there are only three songs and an intro, not all five members ever appear on one song together. This literally was G-Dragon and friends.

It also doesn’t help that “This Love” sampled Maroon 5. For anyone that doesn’t know, I am somewhere between dislike and hatred towards Maroon 5 for some unknown reason. I didn’t feel that track too much.

It was interesting to see what kind of sounds Big Bang had back in the early years since I had gotten familiar with them during the “Alive” promotions. I never realized how much of an R&B and hip-hop sound they had.

Overall rating: 3/5
