On November 3, 2016 YG Entertainment’s premier female singer/rapper/fashionista/pop diva/etc. Chaerin Lee (CL of 2NE1 fame) made her Bay Area concert debut to a near sold out crowd at The Warfield in San Francisco. The show was part of her “Hello Bitches Tour”, one of the first promotional events since announcing her North American debut. The last time she was even in the Bay Area was for a brief interview at Facebook headquarters back in 2012, so this was the first time many fans in the area got to see her. The line wrapped around the entire building as eager Blackjacks couldn’t wait to see their queen light up the stage.

As expected, she performed all of her solo songs such as “Hello Bitches”, “The Baddest Female”, “MTBD”, and her latest English single “Lifted”. While she didn’t interact much with the crowd during intermissions, she put every ounce of her raw energy into her performances (more so than during her last American group tour), which shows that she’s serious about her solo career. 2NE1 classics like “I Am the Best” and “I Don’t Care” were also performed by CL herself, but it wasn’t the same without the group synergy. To fans it was a bittersweet reminder that 2NE1 as a group was coming to an eventual end (in fact they disbanded shortly after CL’s tour had finished). While the other members were sorely missed, the 2NE1 songs were necessary since CL is still new as a solo artist. She definitely proved that she can headline a show all by herself, and as such we were given a glimpse into the next stage of CL’s post 2NE1 career and her path to becoming not just a KPop idol, but an international icon.
