On August 12th, 2018, KCON LA had its final day of the convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles, California. A lot of cons’ final day usually mean hurry up so that they can pack it up, but this was not an example of it. KCON’s final convention day included a lot of guests like Roy Kim, Chungha, and fromis_9. It was time for the Sunday performers to shine on this day.
One of the highlights was having the return of Roy Kim with doing a Q&A. From the looks of it, he hasn’t let fame get to his head and still sounded down to earth like his previous KCON appearance. He was asked to do a rap and play a game featuring lyrics from his own music. It was pretty easy for him to communicate with the fans due to being fluent in English. It was great to see him once again.
This event marked a first for Chungha as it was her first appearance as a soloist after previously appearing at KCON as a member of I.O.I. She was super comfortable in the Q&A portion, and she too having roots in the United States was able to communicate with the fans as she could fluently speak English. She also participated in a game where she had to figure out lyrics from her solo material and I.O.I. songs.
Once again, fromis_9 made appearances at the convention and were super busy. They once again held a pinky promise event where they would make promises with the fans to always love one another. It was a cute event since most greeting events usually just involve either high touches or handshakes. Fans that didn’t get to participate didn’t fret because they were close enough to see them and take pictures of them. There were plenty of photo opportunities as the girls of fromis_9 posed for pictures for the fans.
From the pinky promise event to the KCON stage, the girls of fromis_9 gave a sneak peek to KCON LA attendees what to expect as they performed a few songs. For concert goers, it was an appetizer to the main course for later that night while for for convention attendees only, it was a treat as they got to see a live performance. Their performance really sold me on their songs especially the song “Heart to Heart”.
Things were still popping as many people were still dancing, samples of Korean food were still being consumed, and cosmetics shops were getting a ton of business. People were buying up merchandise from their favorite artists from albums, posters, and clothing. Many booths still had contests to award a lot of prizes.
It was a fantastic final day of the convention portion. For those that were attending the concert, it just made everyone want to go inside the Staples Center already. For those that only attended the convention, it was a bittersweet moment as they’ll have to wait a full calendar year to attend KCON LA again. Many people didn’t even want to leave the convention and stayed until the bitter end even when booths were breaking down their setups.
