Twice’s “Signal” EP review

twice-signal

Artist: Twice
Album: “Signal” EP
Label: JYP Entertainment
Year: 2017

Intro

Because they put out many catchy songs, I end up buying a lot of music from Twice. Eventually, I’ll get to the point of covering all of their music which brings us to this point. This one will be focusing on their EP, “Signal”.

Good

The lyrics were penned by all sorts of contributors. J.Y. Park himself wrote the titled single himself while former Wonder Girls member Ha:tfelt wrote “Only You”. Twice members, Chaeyoung and Jihyo, together wrote the song “Eye Eye Eyes”.

While “Signal” was the main single, the song that really caught my ears was “Only You” since it doesn’t have a typical Twice sound then “Hold Me Tight” totally 100% is a song that sounds like a Twice song.

Bad

To this point, I feel that “Signal” might be their weakest single. Even after some of the 2018 singles they released, I still feel that “Signal” isn’t as good as a lot of songs they have promoted. It’s still a strong song, but because Twice releases a lot of memorable singles, “Signal” just doesn’t stack up to all of the other ones.

I also wasn’t feeling “Eye Eye Eyes” and “Someone Like Me” too much. I only thought it was decent at best. I enjoyed their other songs though.

Overview

I’d say that they’ve done better before this EP released and their later albums were also much better than “Signal”. By no means am I hating on this mini album. If I had to pick the most lackluster Twice release, this would be it. If it were any other group, it would be a fantastic EP, but Twice has released way too many great singles and amazing albums which is why this one had to be at the bottom of their discography.
