Twice’s “Feel Special” EP review

Artist: Twice
Album: “Feel Special”
Label: JYP Entertainment
Year: 2019

After a successful comeback with “Fancy” off their early 2019 EP, “Fancy You”, an arena tour in the United States, and a pair of Japanese singles, Twice is back with their latest single and EP, “Feel Special”.

This comeback is significant because there were rumors of Twice not releasing anymore singles due to Mina’s health scare which caused her to miss the tour of the US.

Although the single didn’t hit me immediately with the awesomeness until a few listens later, it did get me later on. When I looked up the lyrics and translations, it all made sense especially with the music video. This is when I realized that this may possibly be one of their more impactful singles especially with the contents of the song and the message it tells the listener.

Once again, the members of Twice wrote the b-sides that would be included in this latest release. Momo, Dahyun, Jihyo, and Nayeon each wrote songs while Twice as a group wrote “21:29”. I do think that these songs are the best songs the individual members have written up to date.

This album also includes the Korean version of their Japanese hit, “Breakthrough” which was a huge bonus.

The two most important songs were “Feel Special” and “Breakthrough” were not written by any of the members of Twice. I do feel that one day, a member of Twice or maybe the entire group will write a song for a lead single. I think they’re on the cusp but not yet.

I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing, but for the first time in a few releases, JY Park himself was in the process of making the lead single.

Even though it was great that “Breakthrough” was made for the Korean audience, it would have also been great for a Korean version of “Happy Happy” to also be included since it was released at the same time.

It’s good to have Twice back even though they weren’t gone that long. Sure they only released two singles in Korea which is significantly less than what they were doing in 2018, but they had tours and their Japanese promotions to focus on as well.

With this release, Twice also furthered their record as the best selling girl group in the history of South Korea.
