CREAM’s “Love + Party” review

Artist: CREAM
Album: “Love + Party”
Year: 2019

I’ve always enjoyed the music of CREAM. They’re one of the groups that made me see music in a whole different light as they’ve combined so many genres and created something different. They would take a genre I normally don’t listen to and put their own spin on it only to end up making brand new art.

This is refreshing to have CREAM back with a new album. I do appreciate that they have some modern-day hip-hop, R&B, and reggaeton included in their sounds. Songs I really enjoyed include “No Negative Vibes”, “Love + Party”, and “MVP” as I feel like both Minami and Staxx T have the best vibe as a duo in these ones.

This album mostly focuses on the fun aspect of partying and having a good time. Unfortunately, creativity falls flatter than before. For once, I miss their EDM and rock sounds. I don’t feel anything new was brought to the table and it feels stale, yet some of the songs are really good. It’s a case where I like a lot of the songs, but I really don’t love any of them.

This is a solid album, but it’s tough that I have to compare it to their past classics that I still listen to this day. I don’t see myself listening to this one as often as their first few albums. They lost a lot of the dynamics by focusing on one aspect while neglecting another. This one is alright for me.
