May J.’s “Hontou No Koi” EP review

Artist: May J.
Album: “Hontou No Koi” EP
Label: AVEX Music Creative Inc./New World Productions Inc.
Year: 2014

I really enjoy the music of May J up to the point where I don’t think I’ve come across an album I didn’t like. This review will be from her 2014 EP, “Hontou No Koi”. I only was previously familiar with her single “Sunshine Baby!” since I had the song digitally years back.

This EP comes with four songs with “Sunshine Baby!” as the lead single. I really love this single as it is uplifting and fun. It also uses sounds and instrumentals that have not been a part of her previous songs which shows the diversity of her music.

I actually enjoyed all three ballad songs in this EP. I feel the emotion of the songs. Her voice breathes life into her words.

I’d assume that these songs that are in this EP would eventually end up on an LP later on. I would have also liked to see more diversity in the songs.  I can’t really dock her for only having four songs considering it’s an EP, and her songs aren’t about quantity but quality.

May J. is one of my favorite artists especially in the world of JPop. Her songs could be fun and fully amazing. Her songs could also be slow and beautiful. Either way, she is definitely up there with my favorite singers in the genre.
