“Legendary” (2010 American movie) review

I decided to watch this movie because I’m a huge fan of the WWE and also a super big fan of John Cena.  I was curious to see if he can act or not without action scenes and the bad ass persona.

Cal Chetley is a geeky nerd who joins the high school wrestling team in order to attempt to reunite his mother and his estranged brother, Mike, who has been absent for over 10 years after the unfortunate death of his father.  Cal asks Mike, a former wrestling champion, to help coach him up also so that he can have the older brother he didn’t have for the past decade.

It was a bit different to see John Cena in a role that’s different compared to his hero characters in “The Marine” and “12 Rounds”.  It was also cool to see Danny Glover in the movie too.  It was neat to see a movie built around wrestling.

Let’s be real. John Cena acting in a dramatic role doesn’t do it for me.  We want to see John Cena kick ass.  John Cena does action movies because it covers up his limited acting abilities on the big screen.  He doesn’t have it as of now to be a dramatic actor yet considering he has yet to put in the time to officially learn.

I’m just wondering.  What was Danny Glover’s role in this movie?  He was just there every now and then.  What a way to utilize a legend in the acting world.

It was hard to defend Cena’s performance in this movie.  His acting was just so stiff and robotic.  He had such a hard time trying to emote.  He should just stick to wrestling which is what he’s known for or put more effort into learning the art of acting.  It’s sad to say that as a Cena fan.

Overall ration: 1.5/5
