Tokyo Girls’ Style’s “Rock You!/Onnaji Kimochi (YMCK Remix)” EP review

Artist: Tokyo Girls’ Style
Album: “Rock You!/Onnaji Kimochi (YMCK Remix)” EP
Label: AVEX Trax
Year: 2012

After seeing them perform at JPop Summit a few years back, I became a fan of Tokyo Girls’ Style. I felt like I could embrace this group because I wanted to explore more JPop idol groups outside of the ones I already knew. I wanted to check out more of their music as they had a lot of catchy tunes and fun songs. Unfortunately, at the time, iTunes was very limited on their catalog of music. This two track EP was available, so I copped it.

I absolutely loved both tracks. “Rock You” is definitely a rocking track. I love listening to it and most definitely feel that it is a legitimate strong single. I don’t recall them performing this song back then, but this is a song that I learned to fall in love with.

“Onnaji Kimochi” is actually my favorite song from Tokyo Girls’ Style. I’m not the biggest fan of remixes, but I’m a huge fan of video games. I love this remix and rendition of this song with that 8 bit sound effects. It worked for me.

Although the remix is great, I still prefer the original version of “Onnaji Kimochi” because it’s the song that made me a fan of theirs after seeing the performance live. 8 bit is cool and all, but the funkyness of the bass triumphs over all. The original version just has more fun and life than the remix.

I definitely recommend getting this EP if you’re a fan of theirs or getting into JPop idol music. These are two songs that have strong replay value. These songs definitely add to their appeal. If anything, it’s a small investment for music that’s vibrant.
