On December 3rd-4th, 2016, Playstation Experience moved their 2016 edition to the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA thus expanding their two day convention for all things Playstation. There were new announcements, panels, demos, and much more. Capcom Pro Tour 2016 concluded their year long season with Capcom Cup 2016 to be held on the first night at this event with the final eight competitors for Street Fighter V. The Call of Duty World League also kicked off its season at PSX 2016.
Many games were announced at this event. The announcement of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite threw longtime MvC fans into a frenzy as people having been waiting for a new game for years. Ever since Hideo Kojima and Konami parted ways, people have been anticipating a new game from the longtime video game producer, and at this event, “Death Stranding” was announced with a teaser trailer being shown. Many games were announced for the Playstation Virtual Reality and were demonstrated on the show floor.
With the Capcom Pro Tour 2016 finishing its event at PSX 2016, we crowned the first ever Street Fighter V world champion. For the first time in what feels like generations, an American became the undisputed world champion for a numbered Street Fighter game as Team Liquid’s NuckleDu won the six figured grand prize with his outstanding R. Mika and Guile play against the most talented field of SFV professionals ever.
Although new games were being announced left and right, many games were resurrected from the past onto the current generation’s console of choice. Games like Parappa the Rapper, Ganou: Mark of the Wolves, and Windjammers made a comeback into 2017.
Many games that people love to play also received patches and updates just in time for 2017 to hit. For King of Fighters XIV fans, new colors and updated graphics were announced which became free downloadable content. For Street Fighter V enthusiasts, they announced patches for all characters along with a playable build for the first character for season two, the return of Akuma.
There were a lot of fun things to do at this event as many games were playable new and old. It was awesome to check out new technology such as the Playstation VR or playing games I normally don’t play. I felt it was just about time for a port of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to come to Playstation 4. I feel this is an event video gamers must check out every year.
