Artist: Red Velvet
Album: “Russian Roulette” EP
Label: SM Entertainment
Year: 2016
Intro
I pretty much decided to buy this EP digitally because of the titled track. “Russian Roulette” was the song that pulled me into the world of Red Velvet because somehow, someway, I overlooked them during their previous releases. I wanted to see if they were worth checking out or not. I wanted to know why their previous comebacks flew over my head.
Good
We all know that “Russian Roulette” was super catchy but what really determines how good an album are the B tracks. “Lucky Girl”, “Sunny Afternoon”, and “Fool” were tracks that really surprised me. It actually took me a few listens to enjoy them since I too did overlook them. My favorite track off this album that wasn’t a promoted song is the last song, “My Dear”. That song probably helped define them as a group up to this point.
Bad
I really felt that the track “Bad Dracula” was for sure a miss. It also took a few listens to actually enjoy some of the songs. It doesn’t hook you in instantly. Not all the songs are on par with “Russian Roulette” but they are decent enough.
Overview
I think it’s worth the investment to get this album. As their sister groups, Girls Generation and f(x) are considered “old” by KPop standards, this group is new and fresh. They are the group of today and tomorrow.
