On August 6th, 2017, the Newark Pavilion in Newark, California hosted the annual Kin-Yoobi Con for the 2017 edition. Once again it was a one day event which brought out people all over the Bay Area. There were many vendors selling anime merchandise like figurines and plush toys and there were many artists selling artwork. Many people came to cosplay while many others just came to hang out with fellow friends.
There were many activities such as karaoke, the cosplay contest, fashion show, and anime jeopardy. There were panels on how to improve cosplays and such. One of the highlights is the annual charity auction where people put their hopes and prides on the line in hopes of getting auctioned off by someone.
For the hardcore gamers, there were three different gaming tournaments. For the casual gamers, there was a Mario Kart 8 tournament. For the party game enthusiasts, they held the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament. For the more competitive gamers, Kin-Yoobi Con held a Tekken 7: Fated Retribution tournament. It was a more competitive environment than one can imagine.
One of the highlights is the hospitality. For all attendees, they were treated to hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers along with bottles of water to stay hydrated. Chips were also included. For those that were still hungry, there were two separate food vendors. One was waffles with many ways to dress it like fruit, syrup, and more while the other vendor had the anime con staple, takoyaki.
I had a wonderful time at this event. This event by no means is Fanime Con nor is it Anime Expo, but I feel this event is needed. For every mega anime con where you travel and spend hundreds on a hotel, travel, food, and more for survival, you need a local one day con where you can relax and not have to worry about finishing a cosplay on time. Kin-Yoobi Con is the perfect chill convention to send off the summer anime con season.
