E-Girl’s “Kitakaze to Taiyou” EP review

unnamed

Artist: E-Girls
Album: “Kitakaze to Taiyou” EP
Label: Rhythm Zone/AVEX Trax
Year: 2017

Intro

This marks the first entry from myself on this site for my favorite Japanese pop group, E-Girls. I’ve covered solo and sub unit projects from them before though. I discovered them after going into the JPop realm because I needed a group that would bring me joy and happiness in the form of music. After stumbling upon them, I became super obsessed to the point where they’re up there for my favorite overall girl group and artist.

Good

Because of various members leaving the group, many performers are gone which is notable in the music videos while some of the vocalists also left which left a void in the music part. With Dream Ami, Dream Shizuka, Dream Aya, and more gone, Karen, Reina, and Yuzuna get the opportunity to shine more with additional parts to sing.

Their sound has actually evolved from the days of “Missing You” and “Follow Me”. It’s more grown up and more mature.

Bad

This marks the first E-Girls album without some of my favorite members. Dream Ami is my favorite member and I liked other members like the rest of Dream and Shuuka. It feels very different seeing a reduced lineup when I see performances and music videos. It’s also reflected in the music as well since I’m used to hearing familiar voices. Now, you hear pretty much the same three voices.

Overview

I would be lying if I told you that I don’t miss Dream Ami and Dream Shizuka along with the members that left the group in 2017. I only knew them as a mega group. Now, it’s pretty much Happiness, Flower, and original members.
