On April 21st-23rd, 2017, the San Jose McEnery Convention Center played host to the second annual Silicon Valley Comic Con once again brought to the masses by one of the cofounders of Apple, Steve Wozniak. The other venues used for this event were the City National Civic and The California Theater. This event was designed to bring together the best of many worlds. It was to bring pop culture, comics, movies, and more with the technologies of the Silicon Valley. San Jose just happens to be the center of all that.
This event was more anticipated than before with the attendance rising by a few thousand. Many famous people from the small screen to the big screen attended. People that attended included Steven Yuen from The Walking Dead, Adam West from the original Batman series, and William Shatner from Star Trek.
A lot of the programming wasn’t that great. It took a trip to the outside world where Sony had a truck to test out some Playstation 4 games including Injustice 2.
In terms of cosplay, it felt pretty light. Outside of your Marvel and DC characters which included heroes and villains, there wasn’t too much cosplay.
I’ve gotten so used to anime cons that being at a comic con felt pretty foreign to me. It felt like an anime con minus the otaku things. It felt like a western entertainment event, which isn’t a bad thing, but anime conventions tend to have slightly more activities to do. Although there were plenty of big named stars that attended this event, it didn’t entice me at all. It felt very corporate without the free swag that you’d get at other comic cons.
