On August 10th, 2018, KCON will begin once again at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles, California. The 2018 edition promises to be a much bigger event as this time, the entire convention center will be used for the first time ever. No other event will share the venue with our fellow KPop attendees. There is no concert during this day, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things to check out. There are plenty of things that occur on day one of the annual event.
The reason why the convention portion of KCON has expanded is due to the expansion of Klub KCON which is the evening dance portion which involves idol groups and artists making appearances. For the first time ever, Klub KCON will happen in the South Hall of the LACC whereas previous iterations happened in much smaller rooms. This time instead of cameos and brief appearances, there will be performances. The hip-hop portion will have Dynamic Duo, Crush, DJ Friz, and Esna while the idol performances will include Momoland and Golden Child. IN2IT will perform for the special K-EDM stage. It promises to be the biggest Klub KCON of all time.
KCON may be a place to see idols, but it’s also a chance to become one. Stone Entertainment is the home to a few artists on the KCON LA 2018 roster like fromis_9, Wanna One, Roy Kim, and Davichi. They are also home to past KCON LA performers like Eric Nam and Heize. They will be holding auditions for those that aspire to become an idol like their favorite artists.
Ever think you may have the best aegyo? There will be a competition for the best aegyo so try to think of how you can steal the hearts of judges and audience members.
I remember back at the beginning years of KCON, they had speed dating. As someone that tried it in the first two years of the event, I believe no one found love. This event is now back, but it’s now back as “speed friending”. It’s an event designed for those that love the Hallyu Wave to find new friends whether they’re going solo or rolling with a crew. There will now be no pressure to connect with another person intimately.
There are many workshops and panels designed to fit your tastes whether you want to learn the choreography of your favorite group or learn how to break into the industry. There’s something for every Koreaboo.
Of course, you can’t forget the artist engagements and all the special guest appearances on the KCON stage. Let’s not forget all the booths from the major corporate ones to the beauty lines that will fill the floor of West Hall. The action begins in full effect immediately when the doors open on the first day of KCON.
