On September 28th-30th, 2018, the Oakland Convention Center in Downtown Oakland, California hosted Kraken Con after skipping out for all of 2017. With some debating, it was determined that the 2018 edition may actually be the final one, so what better way to go out than with a bang?
What usually makes Kraken Con a fun event is that something awesome usually happens there. I myself have had fond memories at these events. It’s also a great way for the entire Bay Area anime community and beyond to come together.
At this iteration of Kraken Con, there was something that other anime conventions don’t have. They had a booth where one can learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. They also had a bounce zone where you can get your Tigger on or find one’s inner American Gladiators.
Many booths sold a ton of anime goods while many people seeked out anime artwork. Another place to spend some cash would be at the swap meet where you could get some things that you may want at a much lower price.
The gaming tournaments were a blast because many games were represented from Smash to fighting games to mystery games in terms of video games. For TCG games, there were games such as Yu-Gi-Oh, Weiss Schwarz, and Vanguard. Many prizes were awarded to top placers and even for those participating.
From the morning to midnight there were many events from informative panels to sit down chats with the guests of honor.
If this really was the final Kraken Con ever, I’m glad many people came to support this event as the local Oakland community really showed how much they loved this event. If it isn’t, then until next time.
