Artist: Twice
Album: “Summer Nights”
Label: JYP Entertainment
Year: 2018
Intro
“Summer Nights” is a re-release of “What is Love?” but with additional songs. We’ll be doing a review for the entire thing since I had not done one for “What is Love?”, so might as well kill two birds with one stone.
The reason why we’re here is because of the mega smash hit, “Dance the Night Away” which was the single for the repackaged album. This is the song that put them on the top of the mountain of the KPop world.
Good
Of course, this album is more than just two singles. “Summer Nights” has plenty of catchy songs that bring out the Twice charm like “Sweet Talker”, “Shot Through the Heart”, and “Chillax”. Quite a few of the songs have the potential of being hits which could have happened as some of the B side songs charted like “Ho!” and the other songs already listed previously. Many Twice fans can attest that their B side songs are legit.
Bad
The tail end of the album did feel pretty weak as they were forgettable and didn’t stand out. The beginning of the album towards the halfway point carried so much momentum whereas from the mid point to the end, they just lost steam. If there’s one thing Twice isn’t known for, it’s down tempo songs and ballads. It’s probably one of places that they could improve on, but that’s not they’re known for. They’re known for making fun songs that put smiles on faces.
Overview
In previous posts, I have stated that the torch has been passed from Girls’ Generation to Twice as the best girl group to come out of Korea for KPop music. In previous years, Sistar had become the queens of the summertime with always releasing hits, but it looks like now with the hits “Dance the Night Away” and “What is Love?”, Twice is looking like they’ll have that crown as well. It looks like the nine ladies will be adding more achievements and titles to their name as they continue to gain popularity.
