Artist: Yurika Kubo
Album: “Vivid Vivid” EP
Label: Pony Canyon
I already loved Yurika Kubo’s music as Hanayo Koizumi and her solo career, but I just had to get this EP when I heard how catchy the song “Vivid Vivid” was. It sounded really fun and completely different than her prior releases.
This five track EP definitely fits the style of Shikako more which isn’t knocking on her previous albums, but she’s more suited for fun dance songs. The titled track was fantastic and brought the fun and excitement back to her music. She heavily leans towards the electro pop sound which I totally dig. The other tracks “Instant @ Heart”, “Shikashi Shikajika”, and “Shiawase no Kumo” also continued wonderfulness. “Instant @ Heart” probably is my favorite b side.
I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, but more like pretty random. “Tabi Fuusen” is the last song and completely sounds different from the other songs. It sounds like one of those singer songwriter songs. It’s a really good song, but just felt out of place if you go with the theme of the entire album.
I feel with the direction of this album, it sounds like she’s going towards the sound of electro pop like Perfume. This album is listed under the anime category. I really enjoyed listening to this album and am glad I got it immediately when it came out. This really feels like the character Hanayo Koizumi and Yurika Kubo herself fused to release this gem.
