SuperM’s self titled EP debut review

SuperM_Jopping_all

Artist: SuperM
Album: self titled
Label: SM Entertainment/Capitol Music Group
Year: 2019

Intro

SuperM is a super group from SM Entertainment featuring members from their existing boy bands like SHINee, NCT (including sub-units of NCT 127 and WayV), and EXO. They include SHINee’s Taemin, Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, and from NCT, Taeyong, Ten, Lucas, and Mark. Many other agencies and organizations had already been experimenting with mega groups which spawned other mega groups like I.O.I., Wanna One, and IZ*ONE. This time it was SM Entertainment’s turn to show what they can do with their roster.

Good

This EP went to 0-100 mph real fast. From top to bottom, it’s full throttle and won’t let you rest from this thrill ride. It’s filled with high intensity tracks. The song that really brought it outside of the lead single “Jopping” was “I Can’t Stand The Rain”.

Bad

I think this group was formed to bring it. There’s no diversity in the music, and their only objective is to bring the energy to live audience with their upcoming tour. There’s no down tempo songs nor ballads. You know what you’re getting into on the first track.

Overview

SuperM is scheduled to tour the United States and Canada in late 2019 and early 2020. I don’t think they have enough music to fill an entire concert unless they do songs from their other groups considering this debut EP is just five tracks deep.

This project is very ambitious as they’re doing an arena tour in North America before they even try to tour their home continent where they’d have an even bigger home field advantage. I don’t think this is the last super group SM Entertainment has under their sleeve.
