Artist: Ailee
Album: “Invitation” EP
Label: YMC Entertainment
Year: 2012
Intro
In 2012, Ailee released her debut EP, “Invitation”. I’ve liked her music for a few years since she debuted. She has always had one of the strongest voices in all of KPop. She’s always had some great music too. This release is probably what everyone knows her for especially her singles.
Good
This EP has six total songs, three of which were used as singles. The other three had guest appearances by Verbal Jint, Simon D, and Swings. The guest appearances do support her without taking too much of the shine. They’re like role players. I do like the diversity in the music.
The three singles are “Heaven”, “I Will Show You”, and “Evening Sky”, but all the b-sides with featured artists were my favorite songs since they did offer a different vibe with a hip-hop flavor. My favorite would probably be “Shut Up” featuring Simon D.
Her voice is very strong and captivating. It gives her songs some meaning and emotion.
Bad
I feel like the singles and b-sides should have been flip-flopped. The singles screamed supporting tracks while the b-sides totally had more of a promoted single vibe. I feel like her singles were chosen to showcase her strong vocal range.
Overview
This may definitely be one of the better debut EPs by a soloist in the history of KPop. It helps that she worked with well-known producers like Duble Sidekick and Wheesung. She also worked with some of the best hip-hop artists in the scene as well. She has historically released great music, and this was the launching point.
