Album: “Bubble Pop” EP
Label: Cube Entertainment
I happen to be a 4Minute fan and actually purchase their albums. I like them as a group and like the individual members. In this case, I also like Hyuna and wanted to check out her solo work. I wanted to see if she was more than the rapper and visual of her group. As the most popular member of 4Minute, she had a lot of weight on her shoulders to succeed on her own.
“Bubble Pop” was a good choice of the lead single and showed that she could rock it on her own. She had assistance in the form of her labelmates to ensure that this solo effort would be successful.
Although she had a strong showing by herself on the titled track, she relied on guest appearances on the other songs from her fellow 4Minute member Jiyoon, labelmate G. Na, and rapper Dok2. On those songs, the guests were the highlights of the tracks they were on whereas Hyuna struggled to make sure that she was the star. It really shows the limitations of her abilities as a singer and rapper.
Although Hyuna is a big star and “Bubble Pop” is one of the biggest singles of all of KPop music, this album really was forgettable and did not elevate herself as an artist. The song itself put her on top of the mountain, but the album was average at best. Unfortunately, the Cube Entertainment guest appearances couldn’t save this album.
